What does a Linux smartphone look like? While Windows Mobile Smartphones all tend to look alike, Linux gives developers the freedom to innovate -- or imitate -- as desired. E28's e2800+ (pictured here) has garnered awards for both innovation and ease-of-use.

The E28 e2800+ features a hardware buttons for camera and music control, as well as mouse-like buttons along the right side, including up, down, and okay buttons.




The idle screen shows signal strength, battery level, messages waiting, and other status indicators




The main menu screen shows large icons, including one that can link to the service provider's portal




The dialpad screen includes easy access to call logs, contacts, and photo dial




The contact manager supports categories and messaging clients support group addressing




The phone screen menu provides several dialing options, while the contact manager can display international names in a single merged list




Incoming calls are identified, whether a call is already established or not. Multiple calls can be taken separately, or conferenced




The call and network setup screens offer advanced options such as call diverting and number hiding




The message menu and email screen




A combined MMS/SMS message client supports group sends through the contact manager




The organizer includes a variety of standard PIMS functions, as well as a Chinese/English dictionary




The phone includes a voice recorder, and a memo writer that supports both text and drawing modes




The e2800+ includes basic and scientific calculators




The world clock and unit converter, which includes international currency conversion support




The music player can be activated by a hardware button, and includes a playlist that lists song title and duration




The e2800+ includes music composition software with voices that include piano, xylophone, saxophone, clarinet, and violin, among others




The Gallery includes access to the SD card, where longer videos can be stored




With a 512MB SD card, the e2800+ can capture and play back up to 10 hours of video. It also includes an image editor




The e2800+ includes both WAP and HTML browsers
