| Versatile thin client runs Mandriva Linux |

A network terminal vendor is shipping a Via-based thin client that runs Mandrake Linux and supports a wide range of server OSes. Computer Lab International's (CLI's) ET4500T is available with terminal emulators for various legacy systems, and supports X, RDP, and Citrix protocols.

According to CLI, the versatile ET4500T can support servers running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Server 2000, and 2003; Citrix Access Suite and Metaframe; Unix; Linux; and IBM OS/400, i5/OS, OS/390, and z/OS.
The ET4500t is based on a Via Eden processor clocked at 667MHz. It has 128MB each of Flash and RAM. It supports resolutions up to 1280 x 1024, at refresh rates up to 85Hz.
I/O ports include 10/100 Ethernet, two DB-9 serial ports, PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports, four Type-A USB 2.0 ports, one parallel printer port, stereo line-out, line-in, and an 8-bit mini microphone jack. The case includes a lock, measures 2 x 11.25 x 9.5 inches, and weighs 3.3 pounds.
The ET4500t comes with a thin client operating system based on Mandriva (formerly Mandrake/Connectiva/Lycoris). According to CLI, OS features include:- RDP 5.0 support
- Citrix ICA 8, including Program Neighborhood Agent and speed browser
- Various terminal emulators
- IBM TN5250e, TN3270e, 3151
- DEC VT-100, VT-220, VT-320, VT-420
- ANSI BBS, SCO Console
- Wyse WY-50, WY-60
- X11R6 server
- Firefox browser with Sun JVM, Flash, Shockwave, and PDF plugins
- Advanced printing capabilities
Additionally, the ET4500t supports CLI's SNMP Administrator management interface, the company says.
Availability
The ET4500t is available now, priced at $475, including a keyboard, mouse, and three-year warranty.
CLI also sells versions of the ET4500 that run Windows Embedded OSes. One with 32MB of Flash runs Windows CE, and another with 256MB each of RAM and Flash runs Windows XP Embedded.
