Family of "home network processors" adds encryption engine

Conexant Systems announced a new family of home network processors for broadband gateways and wide area network access applications. The CX8611x family enables secure, high-speed Internet access sharing for multiple personal computers while supporting Ethernet, USB, HomePNA, HomePlug, IEEE 802.11a/b/g, and other network media, the company said.

The new family of chips is based on an ARM926EJ-S processor (with MMU) and comes in speeds of 200 and 300 MHz. The processors also include an advanced encryption engine for enhanced hardware-assisted security, a USB host controller, and VoIP support.

Conexant has previously provided embedded Linux support for its processors through a collaboration with Jungo.

The 200 MHz CX86111 is priced at $15 in quantities of 10,000. Sample quantities will be available by mid-year, with volume production scheduled for the third quarter of 2003.
