| New TCP/IP tome debuts |

 No Starch Press is shipping a massive new TCP/IP reference book. The TCP/IP Guide: A Comprehensive, Illustrated Internet Protocols Reference, by Charles Kozierok, weighs in at 1600 pages, has 300 illustrations and 500 tables, and is the first new TCP/IP reference work in some time, No Starch says.
For many years, W. Richard Stevens's three-volume TCP/IP Illustrated series, published by Addison-Wesley, has set the standard for TCP/IP tutorial and reference works. However, Stevens passed away in 1999.
Kozierok appears to have paid homage to Stevens's highly effective illustrated approach, given that No Starch claims his book has "more complete and illustrative diagrams than any other TCP/IP book."
According to No Starch, Kozierok's book is written in a friendly, readable style that "makes plain English" of the dozens of protocols and technologies that run the Internet. It covers common TCP/IP applications, as well as core protocols including PPP, ARP, IP, IPv6, IP NAT, IPSec, Mobile IP, ICMP, RIP, BGP, TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, FTP, SMTP, NNTP, HTTP, and Telnet. Additional materials include coverage of IPv6, and an explanation of the OSI Reference Model.
Kozierok founded and publishes several educational websites, including PC Guide and TCP/IP Guide. He holds masters degrees from MIT in management, electrical engineering, and computer science (EECS).
