Open Group pilots embedded real-time POSIX conformance testing

The Open Group has invited interested organizations to pilot a certification program for one of the IEEE's embedded real-time POSIX standards. Participants will beta test the Group's suite of software tests for compliance with IEEE Std 1003.13-2003 Profile 52, and receive special pricing on product certification in return.

IEEE Standard 1003.13-2003 Profile 52 defines POSIX requirements for embedded real-time systems with filesystems, threads, and single processes, as shown in the chart below.

POSIX 1003.1-2003 defines real-time POSIX requirements
The Open Group began accepting registrations for PSE54 earlier this summer.

The Open Group says its pilot program will create a certification product standard within the "POSIX Certified by IEEE" and "The Open Group" programs: PSE52 Embedded Realtime 1003.13-2003 System." This product standard will match the PSE 52 profile from IEEE Std 1003.13-2003. Its "indicator of compliance" will be the VSPSE52:2003 test suite, a package that currently consists of the VSX4-PSE, VSTH-PSE, and VSRT-PSE test suites, upgraded to the IEEE POSIX 1003.13-2003 PSE52 profile, according to the Open Group.

The Open Group expects the beta test to be available in late November, and hopes to begin offering PSE52:2003 certification in early 2006. Interested parties should sign up for an EDL (early development license).
