Real-time embedded Linux specialist FSMLabs announced two product releases and an educational discount in its December newsletter. A 2.2.1 dot-release of RTLinux adds UML modeling features, while the company's Carrier Grade RTLinux for 64-bit AMD has reached general availability. And, students enrolled in RTLinux courses can license RTLinux for $250.

RTLinux 2.2.1

FSMLabs says the new dot-release of its flagship real-time Linux operating system adds support for C++ kernel modules, integration with Ilogix Rhapsody UML and Matlab Simulink, and a re-written, more robust development kit installer.

Other new features include improved 64-bit and dual-core support. RTLinux now offers a maximum jitter of 2 microseconds, when used with processor reservation technology on dual-core AMD Opterons, the company claims.

Additionally, RTLinux's real-time networking option gains an e1000 driver that supports newer Intel gigabit Ethernet chipsets.

Existing subscribers may request a free upgrade by sending the build_info file from their development kits.

Carrier Grade RTLinux, 64-bit

FSMLabs launched its Carrier Grade RTLinux (CGR) product in May, following up with an announcement of 64-bit AMD support in July. Now, it says its 64-bit CGR for AMD is shipping, packaged on a single DVD that includes the RTLinux development kit. The release is appropriate not only for telecom, but any application demanding high availability features, the company says.

Educational licensing program

In addition to its new product launches, FSMLabs says it has succesfully concluded a year-long beta test program for an educational licensing scheme. The scheme extends $250 licenses to students enrolled in RTLinux courses at US universities and select international universities.

In order to qualify, interested professors teaching semester classes on RTLinux must submit a list of registered students. Support is provided through a community mailing list overseen by FSMLabs. Interested professors should write sales@fsmlabs with subject "250 EDU Licenses."

FSMLabs additionally announced that it expects to begin offering its military/aerospace customers an "ARINC 653 partitioned scheduler" as soon as the end of the year.
