PC/104 SBC does data acquisition, runs Linux

Diamond Systems is shipping an extended temperature range PC/104 SBC (single-board computer) optionally available with built-in data acquisition circuitry. The "Elektra" is powered by a passively cooled "686-class" STMicroelectronics STPC processor that is clocked at 200MHz, consumes just 5.5 Watts, and runs Linux, the company claims.

The Diamond Elektra is available in a basic ELS200-E-XT configuration, or in a ELK200-EA-XT model equipped with on-board data acquisition circuitry. Both models have 128MB of on-board RAM, and can operate from -40 to +85C without a fan, according to the company.

Both Diamond Elektra models include the following I/O ports:

4 x RS-232
2 x USB 1.1 (provides USB floppy support)
10/100 Ethernet
PS/2 port
Parallel port
IDE port
Programmable watchdog timer
Battery-backed real-time clock and BIOS settings

The optional on-board data acquisition function offers:

Autocalibration said to reduce analog measurement errors by a factor of 10
100MHz analog-to-digital conversion with 16-bit resolution
Programmable input ranges
512-sample FIFO (first in, first out)
On-board programmable timer
4 x 12-bit digital/analog channels
24 x programmable digital I/O lines
2 x programmable counter/timers

Both Diamond Electra models can be used with Diamond's "Pandora" cases, which are wall- or chassis-mountable cases available in various heights to support PC/104 stacks of various heights. The Pandora boxes have a "unique cable-free I/O panel board," the company says.

Availability

Both Diamond Elektra models are shipping now. The basic ELK200-E-XT is priced at $400, while the ELK200-EA-XT costs $750. Volume discounts are available for 10 or more units.

Another Diamond board equipped with data acquisition circuitry -- the Athena -- is supported by RTLinuxPro, and available directly from FSMLabs.
