 Registration is open for the tenth annual edition of OSCON (Open Source Convention), as well as for a co-located Ubuntu Live conference. Scheduled for Jul. 21-25 in Portland, Ore., O'Reilly's OSCON 2008 is expected to draw some 2,500 open source experts, visionaries, and hackers.
OSCON is the oldest and largest of the many technical conferences now held by O'Reilly, a technical book publisher focused on the computer developer market. Held at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, the event is expected to offer 400 sessions and tutorials organized into tracks for administration, business, databases, emerging topics, fundamentals, Java, Linux, people, Perl, PHP, programming, Python, and Ruby. This year, OSCON is introducing the Open Mobile Exchange, a one-day event addressing business, technology, web, and open source topics related to the mobile technology industry.
The following is a sampling of sessions that might have special appeal to embedded Linux developers. Most are from the "emerging topics" and "Linux" tracks, as well as the Open Mobile Exchange event:- Ubiquitous multithreading for a multi-core world -- Arch Robison, Intel

- Mobile lightning talks -- billed as "a dozen or so awesome, not-quite-baked gadget and web site demos"

The second annual Ubuntu Live developers conference will run during the first two days of OSCON (Jul. 21-22), and will also be located at the Oregon Convention Center. This year's show will offer longer sessions and a track dedicated to technical enthusiasts and developers interested in Ubuntu, say the organizers. Speakers include Canonical's Jono Bacon, Wired Magazine's Chris Anderson, and Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth (pictured at right).
Sessions of potential interested to embedded developers at Ubuntu Live include:- Ubuntu on the go: subnotebook and MID technologies -- Jon Melamut, Canonical
