American Arium and Jungo have jointly introduced a development kit for Linux-based network gateways, access points, DSL/cable modems, and IADs (Internet access devices). The LC-500MJ kit is based on Intel's IXDPG425 development board, and includes Jungo's OpenRG Linux firmware and American Arium's LC-500 hardware-assisted debugger.

According to Jungo and American Arium, the kit offers a fast, easy, and reliable way to develop prototypes of wireless residential gateways with network attached storage and print server capability; security solutions providing VPN termination, power management, and reporting mechanism support; and voice-over-IP (VoIP) solutions for the small office. Simple installation and configuration enables board bring-up in less than a day, the companies say.
IXDPG425 reference board
The IXDPG425 development board is based on Intel's IXP425 network processor, which has an XScale RISC core clocked up to 533 MHz. It supports up to 128 MB SDRAM, and 32 MB Flash. Interfaces include 10/100 Ethernet and Utopia 2 mezzanine card connections, two MiniPCI Type III slots (32-bit, 33 MHz), four POTS FXS telephone ports with PSTN failover, USB ports, and an RS-232 port.

Arium's LC-500 JTAG debugger
The hardware-assisted debugger provided with the kit includes the run control LC-500 JTAG emulator (pictured), along with Arium's SourcePoint software interface. According to Arium, the debugger supports full symbolic, source-level debugging of the Linux kernel and Linux applications from an elegant, intuitive GUI environment. Arium claims its debugger is the only product to support relocatable and dynamically-loaded kernel module debugging, and debug on initial target bring-up from board reset.
Jungo's OpenRG
Jungo's OpenRG (residential gateway) is a Linux-based software reference design for network devices in the digital home and small office. It includes a Linux distribution, firewall, VPN, voice delivery services, voice delivery services, WPA 802.1x, remote and local management, a file server for storage devices and print servers, support for cable home-based devices, and patent-pending plug-and-play home networking.

Availability
The LC-500MJ Development Kit is available now, priced at $1,800 USD. A version of the kit that includes the IXDPG425 development board is available from Intel, with part number IXP4XXDEBUG.
