Austin, TX -- (press release excerpt) - TUXIA today announced that it has been selected by Intel to adapt TUXIA's embedded Linux software suite, TASTE (TUXIA Appliance Synthesis Technology), for a new consumer media gateway reference platform now being developed by Intel. Intel's and TUXIA's new joint initiative will give original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) an integrated solution that provides high performance, fast time-to-market, and reduced cost-of-ownership for the development of new Internet media devices.

As part of their teaming effort, TUXIA will develop a version of TASTE optimized for the new consumer media gateway platform while Intel will bundle TASTE with the new product to market to its customers. The TASTE embedded Linux operating system and application framework will be ported to Intel's new product to provide a range of advanced multimedia features: TUXIA's Nanozilla browser, the first commercial release of an embedded Mozilla browser designed specifically for information appliances; Macromedia Flash 5.0; RealPlayer 8; Java applet support; MPEG decoding; DVD playback capability; PVR functionality; picture-in-picture support; alpha-blending; and MP3 playback capability.

The market for Internet-connected devices in the home promises a significant business opportunity in the future. Research firm IDC forecasts that the value of information appliance shipments will soar from $7 billion in 2000 to more than $44 billion in 2005.
