Linux tools vendor commits to Intel XScale I/O processors

TimeSys says it will continuously support Intel's XScale-based I/O processors through its OnBoard program, a developer community that hosts, verifies, and distributes chip-specific Linux optimizations. TimeSys says the OnBoard program enables it to support the latest chip-specific Linux optimizations with its commercially supported TimeStorm Linux Development Kits (LDKs).

TimeSys launched the OnBoard program this week at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco. Initial participants include ARM, MIPs, and Freescale.

TimeSys says the OnBoard program will enable it to create Linux 2.6-based TimeStorm LDKs for "a broad subset of the Intel XScale technology-based I/O processor line." TimeSys began offering Linux 2.6-based LDKs for Intel's IOP321, IOP331, IOP332, and 80219 I/O processors earlier this month.

"TimeSys introduced the OnBoard Program to rapidly integrate partner-developed Linux enhancements," said Larry Weidman, president and CEO of TimeSys.
