Inter-Tel has added a new, high-end model to its line of Linux-based voice-over-IP communications servers for small- and medium-sized businesses. The CS-5600 supports up to 250 IP devices, and offers trunk expansion through a "digital expansion interface" (DEI) supporting up to 96 analog and digital phones, according to the company.

The CS-5600 is part of Inter-Tel's "5000" series of communications servers, which includes a basic CS-5200 model supporting up to 75 users, as well as a CS-5400 model that supports up to 175 users. The earlier 5000 series devices are 1U rackmount units, while the CS-5600 is described as having a "dual 1U form factor."

Inter-Tel says the new CS-5600 was designed to provide an upgrade path to customers of earlier 5000-series products. It can interoperate with Inter-Tel products that include applications for presence management, collaboration, messaging, and mobility, as well as hardware devices such as IP and multi-modal endpoints.

The CS-5600 is available with digital expansion interfaces (DEIs) that have four modular bays. One houses a processor module, while the other three can be used for "trunk expansion" modules that interface with digital and analog phone systems.

CEO Craig W. Rauchle stated, "The CS-5600 offers reliability, scalability, and value to customers seeking advanced technology as a means to improve business performance."

Availability

The CS-5600 appears to be available now. Pricing was not disclosed.
