[Updated Mar. 22, 2005] -- DigiTimes reports that founder and CEO Jim Ready inaugurated a MontaVista branch office in Taiwain this week. MontaVista nets two percent of its revenues in Taiwan, and launched a Taiwan branch on March 1, the Taiwanese tech daily says.

Previously, MontaVista operated in Taiwan through two sales agents, including the Taiwan branch of ELT, Inc., of Japan, and the Taiwanese firm Master Integrated Appliances.

According to the DigiTimes, MontaVista makes about two percent of its global sales revenues in Taiwan, where it has sold products to over 100 ODMs (original design manufacturers) and OBMs (original brand manufacturers). The company netted revenues of $1M US in 2004 in Taiwan, the paper says.

The new MontaVista branch office is run by Jullian Hsu, who manages MontaVista's operations in Taiwan, according to the DigiTimes. The paper says the new MontaVista office will "help Taiwan compete with Japan and South Korea to become a global ODM/OEM base for embedded Linux used in consumer electronics."

MontaVista expanded its Japanese operatings last November, and in the summer of 2003 opened an office in South Korea. It opened a UK office in the summer of 2004.
