Amptronix used Linux as the embedded operating system in a 4-channel mobile DVR (digital video recorder) targeting high-end security applications in law enforcement, aviation, military, and public transportation. The DVR-354 uses MPEG-4 compression, has GPS and GPRS radios, and offers numerous alarm options.

Amptronix claims that the DVR-354 offers the most complete alarm system in its class. Alarm features include "triggered detection," motion detection, video loss detection, and a pre-/post-alarm system said to automatically save video recorded just prior to, or just after, alarm events. Alarms can include precise location and speed information, and can be delivered as SMS text messages to a list of mobile phones, the company says.
The DVR-354 supports up to four channels of VGA (640x480) video. Recording modes include continuous, time-lapse, scheduled, interval, and triggered alarm recording. Three quality levels are offered, along with five framerates up to 30fps. Video can be stored as .mov files on an optional internal 2.5-inch IDE hard drive, or an optional removable CompactFlash card. Stored Video can be backed up via USB.
Additional features and ports include a 30-key IR remote controller, local 10/100 Ethernet port, optional WiFi, CF card slot, USB 2.0 port, BNC audio I/O connectors, six digital inputs, two digital outputs, two RS-232 serial ports, and one RS-485 port. The device consumes little power, and has an anti-vibration housing said to withstand up to 2.7Grms.
The DVR-354 measures 3.45 x 6.3 x 2.17, and weighs 4.2 pounds. It supports operating temperatures from -10 to 70 degrees C.
Richard Morrow, marketing manager, stated, "The DVR-354 Series was developed to complement our products for the auto, RV, and boating industries. The success of our DVR-310 encouraged us to engineer the more powerful DVR-354, to meet demand from military, aviation, law enforcement, and public transportation industries."
