| Modular, open, telco "Call Server" runs embedded Linux |

 European telecommunication equipment supplier Iskratel has chosen Carrier Grade Linux and a modular, open-standards-based hardware platform from Intel for its SI2000 Call Server (CS), a softswitch that serves as the "nerve center" of its next-generation platform for Class-4 and Class-5 telecommunications services.

Iskratel's SI2000 is based on the Intel Netstructure ATCA platform, a family of board-level products intended to help carriers and OEMs standardize on open switching systems and Internet Protocol networking.
  Netstructure components tapped by Iskratel for its Call Center products include the MPCHC0001 14U Shelf (at left), MPCBL0001 High-Performance Single Board Computer (shown above) utilizing Low Voltage Intel Xeon processors, and MPCMM0001 Chassis Management Module (at right).
"The standards-based modular approach to delivering next-generation telecom infrastructure products is rapidly gaining momentum," said Anthony Ambrose, general manager, Intel Modular Platform Programs.
On the software side, Iskratel says it chose Carrier Grade Linux from MontaVista after evaluating a number of commercial, proprietary alternatives.
According to Iskratel, the SI2000 CS is a softswitch or media gateway controller that delivers subscriber-side interfaces and trunking signaling to the packet telephony network. It manages calls, controls access and trunking gateways, delivers services, and operates in an open, standards-based network. It supports local and long-distance calling and business and residential service sets, providing regulatory features and carrier-grade reliability and scalability, the companies claim.

MontaVista Linux CGE and AdvancedTCA provide a standards-based, open architecture, software and hardware development platform that is reliable and scalable," said Franc Dolenc, director of Iskratel Business Unit Wireline.
Single products from Iskratel SI2000 NG (next generation) product portfolio are already available to Iskratel's key customers as parts of their complete solutions.
