| Conference targets portable device developers |

The RTC group and Portable Design magazine have announced a conference for those involved in the development of portable devices. Set for October 3-4 in Santa Clara, Calif., the Portable Design Conference and Exhibition will be co-located with the ARM Developer's Conference.
According to the organizers, the newly expanded conference will consist of two keynotes, three tracks, six panels, eight plenary sessions, and 30 technical presentations. The first day of the event will focus on Portable Power, and the second day will focus on Wireless Communications.
Jim Feldhan, president of semiconductor market analyst firm Semico Research, is scheduled to deliver the first day's keynote, entitled "Portable Electronics: The Catalyst for Semiconductor Growth." His presentation will "identify and quantify the portable electronic end markets that will drive a significant portion of the world's semiconductor growth over the next five years. Additionally, the presentation will address the key semiconductor devices that will benefit from this expanding market."
The organizers say this keynote will be followed by plenary sessions, technical presentations, and three panel discussions:- "Mobile Handset Integration Issues"
- "The Challenge of Ultra-Mobile Devices"
- "Emerging Wireless Technologies"
Bill Krenik, CTO of Texas Instruments's wireless terminals business unit, is scheduled to deliver the second day's keynote, entitled "Semiconductor Innovations for Advancing the Wireless Market." His presentation will "address today's evolving wireless trends as well as the technology innovations driving the global wireless market."
This keynote will be followed by additional plenary sessions, technical presentations, and three more panel discussions:- "Mobile Video -- Are We There Yet?"
- "Advances in Power Sources"
- "Winners and Losers in the Wireless World"
