IPSec VPN toolkit supports Linux devices

SafeNet is shipping an "integrated IPSec VPN platform" software said to support VPN connections from next-generation mobile devices. QuickSec 4.1 Server and Client Toolkits helps developers incorporate the most current IPSec security standards, such as MobIKE, into carrier-grade security gateways, network routers, mobile VPN devices, and desktop VPN clients, according to the company.

SafeNet says its QuickSec 4.1 Client Toolkit Premium Edition enables developers to build robust IPSec VPN client functionality into mobile networking devices. It is said to be the first small-footprint security toolkit to support the latest mobile VPN standards such as the IPSec authentication protocol MobIKE (Mobile Internet Key Exchange) defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).

The QuickSec 4.1 Server Toolkit Premium Edition provides carrier-grade IPSec VPN functionality with standards-compliant authentication, confidentiality, and data integrity for security gateways, routers and network servers, according to SafeNet.

In addition to MobIKE, the Server Toolkit supports current Internet Key Exchange protocols such as IKEv2, which enables seamless roaming of IPSec VPN clients from one IP network to another without terminating and re-negotiating the secure VPN connection, the company says.

"With the evolution of Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) networks, it becomes necessary to build FMC gateways that accept mobile VPN connections from mobile users roaming across 3G and WAN networks," said Henk Pruim, VP of SafeNet's OEM Networking Division. "We are proud to be first to market with a carrier-grade IPSec security toolkit that allows networking manufacturers to easily add full VPN mobility into next-generation telecom gateways, faster than ever before."

Availability

QuickSec 4.1 Server and Client Toolkits are available now, according to SafeNet. Current QuickSec customers are eligible for special upgrade offers. New customers are invited to register for a free evaluation here.

The Server Toolkit supports Linux 2.4/2.6, Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 (also on 64-bit platforms), and VxWorks, among other operating systems. Supported client platforms include Linux 2.6, MontaVista Linux 4.0, Windows Mobile 5.0, and Windows 2000/XP.d
