First Silicon Solutions (FS2) and Viosoft have collaborated on a hardware-assisted toolsuite targeting embedded Linux driver, module, and application development for ARM7 and ARM9 targets. The suite includes Viosoft's Arrriba embedded Linux development environment and FS2's System Analyzer for ARM cores.

FS2 says its System Analyzer works with EmbeddedICE logic in the ARM core to set hardware triggers and software breakpoints; start, stop, or step the processor; and view or modify registers and memory. Users can capture and display available trace information such as executed instructions and data cycles for processors that include the ARM Embedded Trace Macrocell (ETM) option. The FS2 System Analyzer also provides support for multi-core debugging, and interfaces to the FS2 MED (Multi-core Embedded Debug) System for more complex SoC designs, the company says.

Viosoft's Arriba Embedded Linux Edition IDE (integrated development environment) hosts on Windows or Linux, and includes royalty-free kernel source code for ARM7 and ARM9 targets. It includes a graphical GNU C/C++ compiler and assembler, source level debugger, and an interface for displaying and modifying system registers, viewing configuration settings, managing file source modules, and generating and debugging user code, according to Viosoft.
