ZNYX Networks, a provider of embedded high-availability Ethernet for Carrier Class systems, is shipping its Intel NetStructure ZT 8102 switch with 16 gigabit Ethernet ports in a CompactPCI 2.16 form factor. ZNYX also offers a customizable version of the ZT 8102 -- the ZX4800P -- to OEMs.

Both managed switches use ZNYX's OpenArchitect control plane software and optionally its "OpenArchitect/HA" high availability add-on. OpenArchitect is an embedded Linux environment with the following stock features listed by Nynx:

RIP
OSPF
BGP
IP Multicast
Quality and class of service
Network management

Zynx lists OpenArchitect's extensible features for OEMs as:

Complete Linux environment
Supports new or custom IP policies
Uses existing Linux networking applications with little or no modifications
Foundation for High Availability solutions

According to ZNYX, the ZT 8102 and ZX4800P switches deliver 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports in a 6U CompactPCI form factor. ZNYX says the boards are optimized for use in 14-node slot systems and designed to meet the slot, power and cooling budgets of chassis 10U and smaller. Robust IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) support integrates temperature and voltage sensors to insure reliability, according to ZNYX. A single chip, 32 Gbps switching fabric enables high-capacity applications, lower power and a non-blocking architecture, the company claims.

OpenArchitect Switch Management System w/ extensible environment
Long Haul fiber option for the 2 GigE Egress ports, ideal for campus or MAN networks

Layer 2-7 packet classification
PowerPC@233MHz with 64MB SDRAM
